In the south of the Bahamas, lies the capital island Nassau. Historically, the island has been facing poverty due to high unemployment rates. Shanty towns, homelessness and limited supply of fresh water plagues many who live below the poverty line. Recently in 2019, the Bahamas were churned up by Dorian, a category 5 hurricane. It has left many injured and without resources. Nassau was majorly unscarred from the natural disaster, but neigbhboring islands from Abaco to the Grand Bahamas islands were devastated. Now, as many as 4,800 people are being evacuated to Nassau, according to the government. This influx of people has filled up shelters and put many people in need of food and clothes.
