Pakistan Earthquake Relief

Watching the news of devastating destruction caused by the most powerful earthquake measured 7.8 on the Richter scale in the northern region of Pakistan, our chairman Mohammad

Javed Qureshi decided to travel to the affected areas to help the victims. Project Earthquake Relief Pakistan 2005, sponsored by Islamic School of Miami, Islamic Foundation of South Florida and community at large provided funding to purchase 1000 blankets, ration, medicine, warm clothing, and construction materials for the needy.

Travelling to the affected and witnessing the death and destruc- tion in Balakot , Muzzafarabad, Bagh, Azad Kashmir, Manshera, Abbottabad, and surrounding towns and villages, Javed decided to dedicate his life to serve humanity. The next 3.5 years starting from Oct 17th, 2005 Javed and his wife Safia Jamil Javed trav- eled frequently to Pakistan to help rebuild lives and infrastructure. Members and the leaders of the community also traveled to the earthquake stricken areas to help those who needed it the most.

A powerful 7.5 Richter Scale earthquake struck northern Pakistan and Afghanistan recently, killing hundreds of people, officials said. The death toll could climb in coming days because communications were down in much of the rugged Hindu Kush mountain range area where the quake was centered. The quake was 213 km deep and centered 254 km northeast of Kabul in Afghanistan’s Badakhshan province.

Thousands of houses have been damaged or destroyed. The most affected areas include Chakdara, Swat, Upper Dir, Shangala, Mardan, Malakand, Charbagh and Babuzai Tehsils.

Friends Of Humanity International is working with Bazeecha Trust in Pakistan, collaboration with the Pakistani Army & Navy. Br. Mohammad Javed Qureshi , Chairman of Friends of Humanity, and Irum Mumtaz of Bazeecha trust have previously worked extensively in these regions, when the area was inflicted with earthquake back in 2005. Relief efforts need to be expedited before the rough weather makes it difficult to reach the affected area.

While dry food, warm clothing, bedding, tents, shoes, medicines, lanterns, etc. are urgently needed, we are requesting financial donations at this time, so that the needed supplies can be purchased locally and delivered to the suffering families as quickly as possible.
